Sir,
I reviewed with interest the article "congenital teratoma of the face," authored by Dinesh S Chauhan and Yadavalli Guruprasad, published in the Med J D. Y. Patil Univ 2014;7:403-4 and I like to comment that this interesting case presents some undesirable features. Some of the clinical photographs are of very poor quality. In the microscopic description of the biopsy material, the author enumerate several tissues composing the tumor, but in the foot note of the included photomicrograph the authors wrote "photomicrograph showing mature teratoma cells with squamous epithelium and keratinous debris, adipose tissue with ductlike and glandular elements." Unfortunately, in this image of the described tissues, only the squamous epithelium is present and the authors confused the pilo-sebaceous complex with adipose and glandular elements. As it is shown in [[Figure 1] included in this letter (which is a copy of the original published), the so-called adipose tissue is the sebaceous gland and the supposed glandular element is part of a hair follicle. In addition, images of the other tissues mentioned in the manuscript were not included. | Figure 1: Copy of the photomicrograph published in the Chauhan and Guruprasad.[1] article illustrating the mistakes typifying the tissues seen in the original picture. (a) hair follicle. Not duct-like or glandular tissue, (b) sebaceous glands. Not adipose tissue

I consider the authors must study their biopsy specimens very carefully and typify the tissues contained in each published image appropriately, since it is very sad for the readers of the journal that this kind of mistakes were published.
Editor's note: As brought out in the editorial in this issue, the journal welcomes such post publication reviews by the reader. The authors were informed of the concerns raised in this letter. They have regretted the oversight. It is our belief that the citation indexing services will link these inputs by Dr Constantino Ledesma-Montes with the original communication to set the record straight.[1]
